The VSD+ system adjusts motor speed in real time to match actual air demand. Atlas Copco cites average energy savings of up to 50% compared to fixed-speed models, verified by an independent energy audit agency. The machine starts and stops under full system pressure with no need to unload, and start-up current penalties are eliminated. Running at a lower average system pressure also reduces leakage losses across the network.
The drive train is centred around Atlas Copco’s in-house designed Interior Permanent Magnet motor, rated to IE5 efficiency standards, oil cooled, and sealed to IP66. The Neos inverter, also designed in-house, exceeds IES2 requirements for power drive efficiency. Together, they form a fully enclosed, maintenance-free drive system with no couplings, gears, or belts to service.
The integrated dryer operates on R410A refrigerant and achieves a pressure dew point of 3°C under reference conditions, complying with ISO 8573-1 air quality Class 3.4.4. Condensate is managed by an electronic no-loss drain with a manual bypass for power failure scenarios. The dryer is specifically sized for this compressor and monitored directly via the Elektronikon system.
The Elektronikon Touch controller has a 4.3-inch colour display, integrated SMARTLINK remote monitoring, dual pressure set points, weekly scheduling, and graphical service plan alerts. It is compatible with Atlas Copco’s Optimizer 4.0 for system-level management across multiple machines.
The upright VSD+ layout occupies significantly less floor space than a traditional horizontal machine of similar output. Up to 75% of electrical energy input can be recovered as hot air or hot water through Atlas Copco’s integrated energy recovery option, without affecting compressor performance.
