The Atlas Copco GA 55 VSD+ FF is a 55 kW oil-injected rotary screw compressor combining Variable Speed Drive Plus technology with an integrated Full Feature refrigerant dryer. Free air delivery runs from 26 to 189 l/s (55 to 400 CFM) across a working pressure range of 5 to 12.75 bar, making it a strong fit for mid-sized industrial operations where compressed air demand shifts throughout the day and a fixed-speed machine would spend too much of its running time at part load.
The VSD+ system adjusts motor speed continuously to match actual demand. Atlas Copco cites average energy savings of up to 50% against fixed-speed models, verified by an independent energy audit agency. The machine starts and stops under full system pressure with no need to unload, eliminating start-up current penalties and reducing average system pressure to keep leakage losses in check.
At the core of the drive train is Atlas Copco’s Interior Permanent Magnet motor, rated to IE5 efficiency standards, oil cooled, and sealed to IP66. The in-house designed Neos inverter exceeds IES2 requirements for power drive efficiency. With no couplings, gears, or belts in the drive arrangement, there is nothing there to service.
The Full Feature dryer runs on R410A refrigerant, achieves a pressure dew point of 3°C at reference conditions, and meets ISO 8573-1 air quality Class 3.4.4. Condensate is managed by an electronic no-loss drain with a manual bypass for power failure situations. The dryer is monitored directly through the Elektronikon system.
The Elektronikon Touch controller features a 4.3-inch colour display, built-in SMARTLINK remote monitoring, dual pressure set points, weekly scheduling, and graphical service plan indication. It is compatible with Atlas Copco’s Optimizer 4.0 for system-level management across multiple machines.
Up to 75% of electrical energy input is recoverable as hot air or hot water through Atlas Copco’s integrated energy recovery option, with no impact on compressor performance.
